They should be locked up for good of course but just look at that aerial. Damn place is like the F-35 of prisons and all of that is for 252 prisoners. Probably amounts to 100K per prisoner. Those cells look rather brutal to me but one really has to make a serious effort to get in there.

23 hours per day in a 22x10 room. One hour per day in cuffs (ed - only for transport to and from) a rec area - either the half-court basketball or the exercise (weight machine) area, I don’t know if any of the other areas have been made or not. Actually, part of that hour is moving to and from, and that’s in cuffs. Several of the b-ball courts are open to sky (chain over the top). You don’t have to toss the ball, you can stand staring at the sky or sit or walk the perimeter of the court…

Can’t speak for ADX, but Colorado’s max (which is just down the road) was interesting duty for librarians. Walk door to door. Update Want list, pick up previous read, deliver new read (one book limit). Paperbacks only. Reference duty was get list of questions (either at walk-through or through message service), get the answers, bring them next trip through or send them through message service. Odd place, glad I only did back-up there and did most of my work at a less restrictive facility.
