Wouldn’t an end to agricultural subsidies open up markets?
I’m jumping in here, in the middle of a thread - it’s likely someone else said this already.
Anyhow, there is a lot of land available for farming in the Northeast where I live. But a nice fresh tomato can’t compete with a subsidized & protected & transported tomato. The argument that food costs would rise seems iffy at best. Once folks started farming again where they farmed 50 years ago, prices would stabilize. And it would mean lots of new jobs.
