As many of the residences now flooded will be uninhabitable even when the water goes down, the number of people needing long term housing solutions will be large.

This is a problem which will need to be addressed and it will take a large amount of money.

The idea of neighbors helping neighbors is a nice heart-warming story during the actual flood, but afterwards then what? The billions and billions of dollars to rebuild has to come from somewhere. Will these same Texans support raising taxes to pay for it?

Since the flooding was so extensive, a lot of it was in areas where flood insurance was not required. Apparently a very high percentage (2/3?) of the homes damaged were not covered by flood insurance.
So, in addition to an almost certain lack of qualified people available to rebuild homes, an awful lot of people just won’t have the money to do it. This has got to be a major hit to the area’s economy, to say nothing of the loss to the people who can’t rebuild.
