re: #367 BeachDem

Here’s why I think any Democrat saying, “I can skip voting for president/write in whoever I want because I live in a solid red/blue state, so my vote won’t affect the outcome” should reconsider that thinking.

Refuting the GOP bullshit that “the people should have a voice in the Scalia replacement, Elizabeth Warren wrote in a Facebook post Sunday. “In fact, they did—when President Obama won the 2012 election by five million votes.”

If all of the people saying they can vote however they want don’t vote for our Dem nominee, our candidate could actually win the electoral college but lose the popular vote (or win it by a very slim margin.) And, dog forbid if a situation arises that throws the election to the Supreme Court, who knows what could happen.

We not only have to win—we have to try to win BIG to shut down some of the noise on the right that is sure to follow the November election. MANDATE—the Republicans claim it when they win by one vote; Dems are required to win by several points, and even then, it is usually ignored.

They want to be able to keep their true progressive street creds by saying “Well I voted for so and so instead of Obama” I mean fine but don’t bitch at me when the Democratic Party decides to nominate someone more moderate than you because you clearly are NOT your party’s base if you’re doing that sort of thing.
