This is a rather strange retort. So TRP “no longer” serves as the liaison? Which means they at one time did serve as liaison. That seems important.

It also isn’t clear why the NYT writer assumes the “liaison” role should be permanent to be valid. If having performed a liaison role, of making the introductions, so to speak, it would make sense for TRP to not be officially involved anymore. The RP connection would still be valid, in other words.
