They were probably trying to compete with the casinos, but the casinos can get away with it because they make so much money in their normal course of business. They probably take a loss on food, if I had to guess.

A lot of them were in casinos, particularly the buffets. Probably lost leaders back in the day, especially with comps. But that town has changed so much in the last 30 years, it shouldn’t be a surprise. And now it’s becoming something of a food destination even off the strip.
