This population, let alone tomorrows increase is not sustainable. We passed that point where the permafrost is melting. Some of us will remember what Ludwig had to say about that as a specific turning point. I think nature is going to trim us back to a sustainable size. We won’t. Not from available evidence anyway.

I imagine the smaller population will do quite well. Still billions. I don’t think it makes me a doomsayer to say 10 or 12 or 14 billion just won’t happen.

Read a recent bit on some event, perhaps volcanic, that trimmed us down to about 10,000 mating couples about 70,000 years ago.

“But ah, with the proper breeding techniques and a ratio of say, ten females to each male, I would guess that they could then work their way back to the present Gross National Product within say, twenty years.”
