I hate to sound cynical but this is happening because the victim was white. I am glad there’s outcry of course but at the same time.

Truth is not cynical - it also relates that the shooter was non-white.

That it happened could also be related to the victim being from Australia where you assume (correctly) that the police are not going to shoot you when you call for help.
