It is possible to see Comey as an honest man of great integrity who made huge errors in judgement that cost Clinton the election, without Comey intending it. Gore lost the 2000 election because a Democratic county official made a bad ballot design choice.

He may also have a very misplaced, overwrought sense of his own “honor”. While he may not have intended or wished for the outcome, that kind of behavior is often selfishly blind.
