Many IQ tests aren’t “multiple guess” such as the Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS, which scores a constellation of areas including non-verbal communication), the Cattell Culture Fair Intelligence Test (explicitly designed to remove cultural bias from tests) or the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale (used to identify developmental delays in children).
This goes back to my original note about IQ tests. Improvements to tests have been going on for over a hundred years as more is learned, but a fuzzy measure still works better than no measure.
When I was a student over half century ago, the IQ tests routinely administered to students in public schools were multiple choice because those are the most convenient to administer and grade.
