I think the main reason why the extra fencing was erected is simple. Everyone finding out that Fuckface Von Clownstick hid in the White House bunker last weekend was a massive narcissistic injury, it was the worst thing to happen to him in his mind; people were calling him a coward, people were laughing at him, the public shaming broke his already fucked-up brain. He asked Secret Service how to avoid ever having to be whisked away to the bunker ever again (bear in mind the last time it was used was on 11 September 2001), SS said “well, about the only thing we could do is fence off everything around us for several blocks…” “DO IT!!!” FVC said. Now he can rest easy in the residence.

Good point, except that WTH does fencing off the WH make it look like, but basically, an open-air “bunker” anyway?
King Orangeanus is still hiding away: that he’s not literally in a secured basement is only a marginal improvement on the image.
And can we imagine Trump EVER doing a Nixon, and going out to meet with protestors - however fakey the setup might be?
