It’s been awhile and maybe I’m misremembering, but isn’t the usual Evangelical retelling of the crucifixion that Pilate was little more than a Roman bureaucrat who was simply carrying out the demand of the Jewish authorities to have Christ crucified for daring to call himself the “King of the Jews”?
