It’s an interesting argument if you like arguing theology (and I do :D ) Generally I don’t consider them to be a Christian denomination since there are just too many differences from the things that even Eastern Orthodox/Roman Catholic/Mainstream Protestant all agree on. That said, they’re no more off in the weeds than, say, my Anglicans are - there isn’t a religion on this planet that doesn’t have something odd in what they believe. I prefer to look at praxy - how do they live - which most folks do follow the golden rule and that’s good enough for me.
Behavior is one good angle. But my good Jewish friends would fit that description, lol. Conversationally, modern culture, ie less discriminatory language declares we all get to self identify. I doubt the average Mormon needs anyone to “mansplain” what they are or are not. Let alone critics of the same.
