While we were waiting for the chance to throw our one and only live grenade in Basic, the platoon warmed up by throwing de-milled shells through a wooden frame the size of a Macy’s window. A guy ahead of me threw his, hit the frame, and it bounced back directly between his feet. Good omen.

I managed to convince the instructor I was left handed, because my right wrist was in a cast.
