Sorry, but no. The sequester is right now the only way Republicans can cut the budget. And Barron’s is right on that point: If we don’t reduce spending we’ll be as screwed as Greece is. Barring some willingness to make major non-defense cuts on the part of the Democrats (the sequester already includes defense cuts), then I see no alternative to the sequester.

Except that the real cuts that must be made - 25 ~ 40% of the defense budget - still aren’t being made. We need to drastically cut defense spending, increase taxes back to (at minimum) the levels they were at in 1980, as well as remove all income limits from SS withholding. Do those things and the budget problems disappear. Then we can afford to begin fixing the looming climate and infrastructure disasters ahead of us.

But the GOP is too damn greedy to care what happens to the nation and it’s economy.
