If Democratic candidates staked out strong positions for a few things and then stayed with them then Democratic voters might be more motivated to turn out. Though the Republicans may be appalling, you do know what they stand for. With some Dems, it seems that the only things they stand for are “not a Republican,” and “elect me.”

Sorry, I just don’t think that’s the case. In Virginia’s 1st Congressional District we had Krystal Ball run against the Republican incumbent in 2010. Ball, who later would get a gig on MSNBC, is pretty liberal and outspoken. She only got 35% of the vote.
