When my grandmother had her 100th birthday, we sent requests for greetings from every state and national elected official we could. The Obamas sent a nice greeting, which we framed. The only other official to send anything other than a really perfunctory note was, believe it or not, Gov. Rick Perry. The Governor’s Office apparently never had anyone request greetings of that sort, as there wasn’t a link on their site for it, like there was for every other official we contacted. They sent a very nice proclamation-style document. (Grandmother was a Republican, so we framed that one, too.)

I remember my grandmother cherishing her Christmas card from the Clintons. She was a proud Democrat till the end.
