re: #353 Targetpractice

The DNC leadership hoped they could “play it safe” by substituting investigations for impeachment, that when push came to shove Donny would look even more guilty by choosing to slow-walk the process in the courts. But instead he’s chosen to say “fuck the law” and is not only directly ordering those subpoenaed not to cooperate in defiance of the law, he’s pushing to attack the very people charged with investigating unlawful acts committed by the executive branch.

Which really leads to the big question: What if he wins next year while the DNC leadership spent the whole lead-up to the election arguing that as bad as his crimes are, they don’t warrant impeachment proceedings because conviction isn’t assured?

Laurence Tribe talked about this very situation on Ari Melber’s show the other night. He said the Democrats were doing the right thing, following the impeachment proceedings the way they were done in the Nixon era. You have to investigate to build a case, same as any law enforcement.

But when the accused refuses to cooperate in any manner, you proceed to indictment (impeachment) and hope you have a good case.

Tribe made it sound like Democrats would have to impeach if Trump does what he is doing. He is forcing their hand.

Then it goes to the Republicans in the Senate and, well, who knows, but a good chance they don’t kick him out.

At that point I get the feeling the blame in all aspects will be put on the Democrats. They didn’t do a good job, they took too long, they are just playing politics, blah, blah.

And Trump had a good chance of turning that into a reelection.

Kind of looks like a dangerous mess any way you look at it.
