Looks like Egypt still can’t get it right… sigh.
A development like this wasn’t inevitable, but afaic it was far likelier than not. It doesn’t surprise me, but I expected it to take longer than it has.
Maybe (maybe not) Morsi thought he could be either Egypt’s Kerensky or Egypt’s Lenin. Maybe he recalled what happened to the ineffectual reform government that briefly took power from the Shah of Iran, and what happened to Russia during and after Yeltsin’s well-intentioned administration. Maybe he was right.
