There’s also the point that I’m pretty sure Gen. Jackson would not have approved of gunning down women as Roof did, even if they were black.

It’s worth noting that Lee and Jackson made a very bad choice in the cause they served, but they did do their best to wage a ‘clean’ war, and in the East such efforts were generally successful.

In the West of course, things were different, especially when it came to the Confederate cavalry under the capable but horrific Nathan Bedford Forrest, quite likely the most brutal general America has produced.
