The entire point here is to make one feel good. It’s supposed to be an alternative to using opiates for pain control. It’s not exactly the equivalent of treating cancer with homeopathy or rejecting vaccination.

Exactly. What matters is alleviating pain. Even if it actually has no effect, if the patient thinks it does and, through some brain process we don’t understand, stops feeling pain, that is worthwhile.
