re: #365 Archangelus
On one hand there is a point there. On the other, it’s a really crappy comparison insofar as I (and a LOT of people, especially in Israel right now where her comment is making headline news) am concerned.
What do you think of this person’s take?
A lot of people seem to think this parallel is not synonymous and they’re wrong for 2 reasons:
1) a distinction between Jews fleeing extinction at the hands of a gov’t & families fleeing extinction due to uncontrollable violence in their countries is arbitrary & meaningless https://t.co/eMPtpFGpVl— Avi Bueno (@AviAhvee) November 25, 2018
2) the constant contrast between *which* Jews were fleeing violence and *which* people are fleeing their impoverished and gang-ridden countries often makes the Jews out to be a trustworthy refugee group but Central Americans to be criminals.
2 subpoints on this:— Avi Bueno (@AviAhvee) November 25, 2018
B) the foundation for this distinction is nothing less than racism. Those trying to distinguish between the two rely on nothing other than the fact that the Jews fleeing were European and, so, relatable to white people, while Central Americans are brown and depicted as dangerous.
