Then I’m trying to understand the logic here. So we need to build more multi-billion dollar aircraft carriers because they’re optimally designed for providing humanitarian relief? That’s really just a secondary if not tertiary mission. That platform coast does not include the cost of several airwings utilizing a variety of aircraft including maintenance and layers upon layers of managment (i.e. command) structures. I can confidently say that a non-military humanitarian operation using large vessels would be far cheaper than utilizing warships.

So the cost of building a military aircraft carrier, with planes, trained airmen and crew, would cost more than building a non-military aircraft carrier, with planes, trained airmen and crew. While I agree that government is typically wasteful, in this case, I’m going to have to disagree.
