If you insist that employees are just another business expense to be minimized, like toner cartridges and staples, then that view is entirely consistent.

But toner cartridges do not require public aid when they are put out behind the dumpster.

Maybe not. What does it cost to recycle or dispose of properly a bunch of toner cartridges? I know here in Columbus the government has a working relationship with the recycle companies and I would imagine there are some public costs involved in all that. And if not properly disposed of, what are the long term costs to a local government to maintain a dump site with a toxic brew of all kinds of stuff cooking in the earth?

Everything has costs, from humans to all humans create. And everything has a bit of public aid behind it too.
