They figure that the money will insulate them from the problems, just as surely as the Robber Barons built their gilded mansions while the slums in NYC remained overcrowded with their workers, or the Pittsburgh skies were a constant shade of grey/orange from the smelters/mining activities, etc.

They must think that the movie Elysium is how they’ll get by. The privileged get to breathe clean air and are disease free, while everyone else mucks by.
