Mrs. Fish and I got into an argument earlier tonight. I claimed that the first woman President will almost certainly be a Democrat. She kept insisting that it’s possible that the Republicans could nominate a woman. I couldn’t find any way to get through to her that the Republicans are so ingrained in patriarchal, anti-woman culture that there is no way on God’s green earth that they will ever cast a vote for a woman. She said, “Yeah, all those Republicans who didn’t vote for Trump might vote for a woman.” I tried explaining to her that there WEREN’T any Republicans that didn’t vote for Trump. It fell on deaf ears. Now, lest you think poorly of Mrs. Fish, she is not a wingnut; she just likes to play devil’s advocate.

Playing devil’s advocate is fine. This is more like arguing that 2 + 3 = 6.
