One thing that the NYT and WaPo don’t get about present day US politics is that the US is an enlightenment project and so is the profession of journalism that they are supposed to be practicing.

The Republicans have become an anti-enlightenment party, and the WaPo and NYT will be first up against the wall if the GOP ever seizes power for real.

So the NYT and WaPo need to start reporting straight news adversarially vs. the Republicans at all times as if their lives depended on it, because they do.
