I think any aliens that come would be doing so for economic purposes, more than being our friends. It costs a bit of resources to send a ship out into space, light years away.

I can’t see us really mounting such an operation without economic impetus. There may be other reasons, but it would have to be an economic benefit to get it done.

I suspect that first contact will be with self replicating machines that care little for us other than our chemical structure and use whatever raw resources as necessary to continue with their programming.
