My prediction now is that Ryan will table the bill, claiming that it requires “revision” in light of the CBO report. When the press calls him on it, he’ll say he’s doing what the Democrats should have done with Obamacare, going back to the drawing board rather than pushing forward with an unpopular bill. Trump won’t treat it as backtracking or a failure, he’ll insist that it’s for the good because Obamacare will “collapse” by next year and Republicans will be elected in droves by that “failure.”

And when Republicans run next year for reelection, they’ll meet charges that they were prepared to strip 24 million people of insurance by insisting that the bill never came to a vote, but if it had they would have voted against it “in that form.” They’ll run next year on the same fantasy bill they’ve been promising for the past 9 years.

Man, you credit them with far more pragmatism than I do. I predict it goes to the Senate and only The Cosmic Owl knows what happens from there.
