Moving some books today, and happened to pick one up during a break:
Demagogues in the Depression, by David H. Bennett. Flipped it open for a minute, and found this extremely contemporary quote from Father Coughlin:
“Do you know how i would live if I renounced religion and was illogical enough to disbelieve in a life beyond? Why… I would surround myself with the most adroit hi-jackers, learn every trick of the highest banking and stock manipulations, avail myself of the laws under which to hide my own crimes, create a smoke screen to throw into the eyes of men, and believe me, I would become the world’s champion crook… I would get everything for myself that I could lay my hands on in this world.”
Trump’s inner thoughts, if Trump was literate.
