re: #303 Aceofwhat?

I can see how a person could disagree with that ‘jump’, but to find it off-putting, you’d need to whitewash their clear and consistent bias throughout the years.

Ludwig is a trendline kind of guy, and few organizations keep their sigma as small as Al-Jezeera…i can’t blame him in this instance.

I agree that Al Jazeera has a bias, I’m just not as bothered by that as some people, as I believe they tend to be both fairly honest and professional about it. They inherited a lot of their very talented professional staff from the shuttered BBC mideast news bureau and have been fairly consistent about maintaining firm lines between news and editorials. They’re doing a much better job than either Reuters or Fox, and have been for a very long time.

A lot of the antipathy towards them in the US is just knee jerk, although some is a genuine educated dislike for the editorial bias Al Jazeera make no effort to hide. I still find Control Room to be one of the best documentaries ever made concerning the subject of bias in media:

Lt. Josh Rushing: hen I watch Al Jazeera, I can tell what they’re showing and what they’re not showing by choice. It’s the same thing when I watch Fox on the other end of the spectrum.

Joshua Rushing: The night they showed the POWs and dead soldiers… it was powerful, because Americans won’t show those kinds of images. It made me sick to my stomach.

Joshua Rushing: I just saw people on the other side, and those people in the Al Jazeera offices must have felt the way I was feeling that night, and it upset me on a profound level that I wasn’t bothered as much the night before. It makes me hate war.

It makes me hate war, but it doesn’t make me believe that we’re in a world that can live without war yet.

Samir Khader: Between us, if I’m offered a job at Fox News, I’ll take it. Instantly. I will send my children to go to America after highschool, I will pay for them to go, to exchange the Arab nightmare for the American dream.
