Yeah that’s going to be a problem imo. Believing the family stories that turned out being true is one thing. But this is different. It won’t justify the right’s reaction to it but it’s worthy of criticism imo.
Since I confessed one sin from when I was 5, here I will confess that in 2000 I encouraged my wife to list her race as Native American in the census because her family tree showed that she is a descendant of John Rolfe and Pocahontas. I now realize that was insensitive, but fortunately Mrs. Aagcobb is unlikely to run for a high office.
