Mine were Scots Irish, Dad’s side. One of my favorite family scenes ever was at Thanksgiving when I was about 10. My great-uncle married a British woman with the last name of Martin. She was very proud of her country of origin and her last name and would trot out her pedigree whenever possible.

This time when she went into her spiel my very drunk grandfather yelled, “Och, well, they were so fecking important they named a bird after ‘em!”

Yes, there is a long history there.

Ha I love the Scots. Our background is primarily Celtic Irish Catholic but I wouldn’t be surprised if we had some Scots ancestry. Dads mom had a grandmother from Glasgow.
