Big question is why?
1. He could have been sleeping with some dudes wife,
1. a. He could have been sleeping with some gals husband.
2. A bad business deal.
3. He was about to sell information. If he is with Putin all the time… he probably knows a lot of inside information worth A LOT of money to western countries.
4. He refused to give up the codes.
5. He refused to comply during a launch drill.
6. He refused to comply during a legit launch order by attempting to unalive himself.
7. He was offed to let the football go to someone else.
7. a. Someone less likely to comply with a use of nukes scenario.
7. b. Someone more likely to comply with a use of nukes scenario.
8. Weapons accident during cleaning or some such (legit, not arranged).

I would call 4., 6., and 7.b. as cause to contemplating defecation of diamonds or at least masonry building materials.
