Totally unrelated but given that the availability of contraceptives is a hot item in the current health care debate, here’s a story from my residence, The Netherlands.

Number of teen-moms lower than ever in the Netherlands.

In the Netherlands there are less and less teenage pregancies than ever. According to statistics agency CBS five girls in a 1000 that were mothers, a historic low.

In total 2365 girls under the age of 20 became mothers. Girls of Antillian decent were six time more prone to get pregnant than native Dutch girls. The lowest rate of teenage pregancy was with girls of Turkish decent.

The birth rate of Dutch teenage mothers is sinking for years now. In Europe only in Switzerland the rate is even lower. The most teenage pregnancy occur in Bulgary, followed by Rumania and Great Brittain.

This is what a healthy health care system does. It prevents unwanted teenage pregnancies from happening.
