It has been sadly gratifying to watch how the last few days have played out in the media, since the Parkland shooting.

We often say that, once America saw 20 first graders killed and did nothing, that the choice had been made, that sacrificing children on the altar of the gun was now acceptable. But now it feels like something’s happening, like maybe this time is different.

The difference? First graders can’t speak out, can’t organize, can’t articulate what’s wrong with the gun culture. Their parents are suspect, because they’re probably Democrats.

But High School students are close enough to adults to be effective at speaking out, at getting people to listen. And they’re miles ahead of us on Social Media.

Look for wingnut blogs to ramp up the attacks on these kids, questioning whether they even attend that school, questioning their sexuality (like that matters), questioning whether they’re paid.
