I think they got the feeling that they were invincible because they stand for an extremely noble cause, and so they can throw their weight around wherever they like with impunity. I mean, really, it takes balls to stand up and denounce a group whose purported reason for existence is the eradication of breast cancer. But, as they found out, there are people out there with the gravitas to call them on their bullshit, and now they are paying the price.
