People are so used to hearing ZOMG FREE SPEECH!!! FIRST AMENDMENT!!!! every time someone gets banned or shouted down, they’ve been conditioned to think that’s what the First Amendment really means.

They also don’t seem to realize that free speech doesn’t mean you can say whatever you want with no repercussions. For instance, I could call a fellow lizard an asshole and I would be within my free speech rights to do that without worrying about the police coming to my door and arresting me but the lizard community would be free to call me an asshole back and ostracize me. So many Americans think free speech= I can say whatever the hell I want and you have no right to call me out. It’s never worked that way at all.
