If I were you, I’d try to avoid talking politics with him. I had a really hard time discussing the 2008 election with my grandfather because he couldn’t stand Obama and I really think ti was racially motivated. I loved the man dearly and he was very sick during this time but for a lifelong Democrat and fellow opponent of the Iraq War to suddenly start supporting McCain. It really made me wonder. And no I am not saying that all opponents of Obama are racist but I knew my grandfather and his prejudices.

I’m sure it was, consciously or unconsciously, racially motivated. But as I’ve said before, the Republicans have baked that advantage into their expectations and their “unskewing” process. They’re counting on it. When the 2016 Dem nominee isn’t black, they’re going to be blindsided.
