What’s wrong with miles and pounds? I like the system we use.

Millions of dollars worth of trashed spacecraft for one thing, but that’s ultimately human error. The big point is the increased cost of having to deal with two entirely different systems of measuring the exact same thing. Having to manufacture things in metric and imperial labeling, the time and cost of training people that work internationally on two systems of measurement, that sort of thing. There’s no good reason to keep using imperial.
