Honestly, what I always ask the defenders and I’ve had this conversation many a time given most of my family root for this team is what would the reaction today be if a team with this name and logo were to be an expansion team. They’ve come to accept the name because it’s all they’ve ever known and that blinds them to the reality of its offensive nature. And they can’t really answer that question because I think many do know/realize its offensive. Really, I heard Joe Gibbs asked about the name and he says it’s about pride. Well, Joe, that’s nice and all but if you had won all those SBs you won in the 80’s and early 90’s as the coach of the Washington Wankers. There would be a lot of proud “wankers” too. It’s not the name that made people proud to root for that team. It’s what they did.
