The existence of traditional particularist interpretations of “love your neighbor” throws the explanation of “neighbor” as a stand-in for all of humanity into doubt. I.e. it’s not clear that Jesus meant love of all humans. Indeed, there would be no need to refer to “neighbor” instead of “everybody” if that what was meant. While this interpretation is possible it’s not certain.
