I’m not so sure. My guess is that in conservative areas, especially in the South, countless results from 23andme and other DNA ancestry sites have been quietly burned and flushed down the toilet, for the same reason that courthouse fires were so common back in the day of the “one-drop rule.”

A prime example are the Melungeons, who traditionally insisted they were descendants of Portuguese or Moors, but genetically are African-American.
