yes indeed….my dad waded in with the third wave….crossfire from the pier…point blank heavy machine guns etc…the battle ships made little difference for all the ordnance they put on that heap of sand…small arms were like rain on the water

Mine enlisted in Dec. ‘39, but didn’t get out into the island campaigns until Eniwetok (sp?, typing fast)
