I agree. I will not now argue about what constitutes an “assault weapon”, but it is true that having the right to own one does not mean that there is a reason to own one.
However, I would really enjoy taking an AR15 to the range. I have never fired one. I understand that they are fun to shoot and are often used in competitions. In fact, I have only shot with the weapons required for my watch qualifications in the Submarine Force.
I also agree with those who call for more control over who can own weapons. Clearly not everyone should be permitted to own a gun. No right is absolute.
