I think you’re right that it is domestic in nature at its core because more Muslim immigrants is something they see as a threat to the America as they’ve known it. I OTOH have had Muslim classmates, friends, and neighbors for years now.

It’s not even about actual, factual Muslim immigrants. It’s about a mysterious network of crypto-Muslims and sympathizers trying to destroy the nation, who presence can only be discerned by a few in-the-know individuals.

The concept of Secret Muslims is where this shit really goes down the rabbit hole.
