According to my Facebook feed, the Cruz speech was the first shot fired in a party civil war. Half of the conservatives I see loved it and now think Cruz is every dreamy thing they ever want. The other half think he’s a lying cheating SOB that needs to be catapulted out of Cleveland. More or less.

The half that love it are very much NeverTrump. I don’t have it in me to point out that the difference between Cruz and Trump is that Trump is just Cruz going to 11 (I’m sure I’d get the “Cruz is a real conservative, Trump isn’t really conservative!” line)

I disagree with your last sentence. I’d say that the Never Trumps who love Cruz can tell that Trump doesn’t mean anything he says, and they likely know that he has NO FUCKING CLUE WHAT HE’S DOING! The NYT article on Trump’s Foreign Policy should cause anyone, but especially anyone on the GOP side, scream, vomit, and faint. The man’s talking about abandoning allies in the face of Russian aggression, for Christ’s sake! I mean, I know they wingnuts LUV ol’ Vlad Putin, but seriously?

So, while Trump’s speeches are Cruz’s policies turned to 11, his actual policy knowledge and proposals are the diammetric opposite of projecting strength.

I mean, he SAYS our allies don’t think they can trust us anymore, and then he talks about not coming to their aid. He says our enemies don’t fear us anymore, and then he talks about pulling our troops out of bases in other countries around the world.
