I’m going to take Teleskiguy’s advice up there and back away slowly, since some subjects are too touchy to discuss here.

I’ll just note I lost visitation rights over my child and was rendered homeless because of my lack of religious belief (along with demon possession due to my epilepsy), along with being disowned by most of my family and frequent death threats from people I don’t know.

William’s reaction was actually pretty mild for the kind of provocation you’ve thrown out on a frequent basis — the phrase “fifth column” comes to mind, among others.
Pretending that his reaction is out of line, with the sarcastic “That escalated quickly” is disingenuous, at best.

You told William Lewis a few threads ago that he was raising a strawman to say you hate all believers. I don’t know you IRL; I can only judge by what you choose to say in this forum — but I would say it’s a justifiable inference from reading the cumulative tenor of your posts. To say that you are excoriating the ‘organisations’ rather than the individuals is a distinction without a difference on the receiving end of a pretty steady spray of vitriol splattered about with a broad brush.

I generally try not to downding. I scroll past a lot of night whinges because there’s no point in trying to argue with fundamentalists of any stripe, believer or non-. I expect to get downdinged. I don’t expect to change any Lizard minds, and I’ll probably be sorry I said anything.

However, I am uneasy watching this kind of rhetoric repeatedly go by in silence, on this site of all others. Lizards who I do not think would generalize all members of a group from the actions of some for any other religion or race seem to feel free to generalize about Christians. Maybe there’s a sense of ‘punching up,’ but it’s no less a lack of respect for the some of the Lizard believers here.

It has a chilling effect on the dialogue when this kind of rhetoric directed at any group goes by in silence, as witnessed by fact that I expect to get down-dinged for saying this. I certainly expect several long screeds justifying the rhetoric.

Yes, the Dominionists are pure D evil. Yes, way too many of the fundies have been sucked into the cult of the prosperity gospel. I have yet to see a Dominionist commenting on this site, and if there are any fundies they’re being pretty quiet.

“Do unto others” is not a tenet specific to any one religion. It is simply a basic code of behavior common to all venues where we interact with our fellow humans. May I respectfully ask for consideration, in a place where we generally try to respect one another?
