I don’t use the right-wing made-up term “sanctuary city.” The whole idea is to shift the moral and legal burden, such as the made-up term “pro-life.”

I think it was made up by those who wish to provide sanctuary to people who fear deportation.

Cities are not required to expend money to enforce Federal laws. That is the job of the Federal government, and no city has ever tried to prevent ICE or any other Federal organisation from carrying out their duties.

The term is a misdirection from the real goal: defunding locales. All they have to do is say “city X is a sanctuary city because it is not co-operating” and that’s it.

Call it what it is: hostage-taking. Bullying. Forcing others to do your work at their expense. Federal overreach.

No argument there. I would add that deportation and creating fear are also real goals. The fear they create enables the low (or no) wages.
