And campaign on a message that resonates with locals in that particular district (which, from what I gather, is exactly what Thompson did - running against Brownback’s craptastic economic policies as opposed to trump’s personality)

In Kansas last night, it ultimately came down to turnout:

In #KS04, the Dem vote was 68% of their vote in the district last year.

The GOP vote was just 38% of last year’s total. Good enough to win.
